Why a Trauma Therapist Would Host a Women’s Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica

As a trauma therapist, I spend my days sitting with women as they tell the stories of what they’ve survived. Many of them have lived through experiences that disconnected them from their bodies, their emotions, and sometimes even their sense of identity. Trauma can make life feel like something you simply endure rather than something you fully experience.

Over time, I’ve realized that healing doesn’t only happen in a therapy office. While traditional therapy is incredibly powerful, many women also need space to reconnect with their bodies, their intuition, and the parts of themselves that trauma forced them to silence.

That’s one of the reasons I’m hosting an all-women’s yoga retreat in Costa Rica.

Trauma often pulls us out of alignment, not just mentally and emotionally, but physically and energetically. Many trauma survivors feel stuck in survival mode, disconnected from their bodies, or constantly overwhelmed by stress. Practices like yoga, mindfulness, and energy work can gently help the nervous system relearn safety and bring us back into balance.

During this retreat, we’ll focus on grounding ourselves and reconnecting with our bodies through yoga and chakra alignment practices. The chakra system is often described as the body’s energetic centers, each connected to different aspects of our emotional and physical well-being. When we intentionally work with these centers, through movement, breathwork, meditation, and reflection, we create space for healing on multiple levels.

But this retreat is about more than just healing trauma. It’s about remembering what it feels like to be fully alive.

So many women I work with have spent years prioritizing survival: protecting themselves, caring for others, or pushing through pain. In that process, joy, playfulness, and self-connection often get lost. A retreat creates a different kind of environment: one where women can slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover parts of themselves that have been buried under stress and responsibility.

Costa Rica is a place close to my heart and the perfect setting for this kind of experience. Being surrounded by nature, the ocean, the jungle, and the warmth of the sun naturally invites our nervous systems to soften. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger, something alive and constantly renewing itself.

My hope is that women who attend this retreat leave feeling more connected to themselves, more grounded in their bodies, and more open to the possibility of joy. Healing from trauma is not just about reducing symptoms; it’s about reclaiming your life.

And sometimes, that journey begins by stepping out of your everyday environment, gathering in community with other women, moving your body, and remembering what it feels like to truly come alive.
